Death on the Island
What used to be called Gordons Island has now been changed to Muwin Monikuhk(Muwin Island) in honor of all the people of the Muwin clan who were sent there. They were sent there because they had the disease small pox, which was brought over by the Europeans, and the tribe decided to sent all the people infected with the disease over to Muwin Monikuhk for the good of the people and to prevent the spread of the disease.
On the island today you can see burial grounds of the unfortunate people of the muwin clan who fell to the disease.

Paragraph Header
At the Indian Township School an important part of the curricula is learning the Passamoquoddy language. Each week a different theme is used and we learn the words that are associated with the theme. Last week's words included animals that enjoy the land and the lake. They are as follows: Oqim (loon), Motehehsim (black duck), Qapit (beaver), and Kiwonik (otter). Other words associated with springtime and the lake area include Sipun (black fly), Cossu (mosquito), and Psosahq (horse fly).
